The Train Cake Disaster
My mother-in-law always makes my kids darling birthday cakes. Well, this year I guess I thought if I made a cute birthday cake I may win the mother of the year award (hee hee, yeah right). So, my good friend has this darling train cake mold. She sent her son to preschool on his birthday with the cutest choo-choo cake. When I saw it I knew that's what I wanted to do for Spencer's birthday. So, I borrowed the cake pan, made the simple recipe and then had to make it three more times. It was a complete disaster! I used a whole dozen eggs and had the oven on all day. Next time I will let my mother-in-law make a cute doggie cake like she offered! What was I thinking? I guess mother of the year is out for me!
This is how the cakes came out of the oven almost every time. One time, every one of them was ruined. What did I do wrong?
I salvaged some of the pieces.
The final choo-choo cake...not that cute, but Spencer loved it!

I love all your updates! And your cake wasn't a disaster. I think it's a cute idea and you did a good job! I say it doesn't have to be perfect to be fun. Look at the smile on his face, he loves it!d
Every time I make a birthday cake for my kids it turns into either an all day project, a disaster, or both. I think we just try to do too much and expect too much. I think the cake is darling. There is very little frosting can't fix, and I say the more frosting, the better. Cute party! I know what you mean, I can't believe my babies will be 3 in September!
Better than mine would have turned out. If you want to look back on Christophers birthday on my blog you will see he got the norm sheet cake with frosting. nothing special about it. :)
